Gert comments on the song Hide: "I can't actually say what it is about...that's how my head works most of the time."

Sarah cam scene:
Emily Saliers: "You are trying to further your career by filming the Indigo Girls?! This is so...aaah, I hate this band!"
Sarah: "What do you mean by furthering our career by filming the Indigo Girls...?"
(Emily bursts into laughter)

Gert: "I am a Jägermeister!"

ah, yes: and I really like the "Sarah cam" scenes where Sarah is filming the others. :)

And when they are making faces, like Sarah does when she looks into the mirror and sees what Gert has done to her hair. ;)

And also the scene in the studio in England during the recording of Almost happy where Sarah and Gert give an acoustic performance. So beautiful!

In one scene of the video for "everything for free", Gert has the little fish tank on his head.

I really like the concept of this video, and when Sarah (who plays the psychologist) swaps roles with her "patient" in the end. ;)

I know now how "Gert" is actually pronounced. *lol*

I can't help but thinking that Sarah must have had a certain role model for her performance of her very first single "I'm so lonesome I could cry" (which is on the dvd).

During the "Cocoon crash" era, Sarah was always wearing this necklace which she is also wearing on the pics for the album's artwork.

For the interview where Sarah talks about her side projects, she has her natural brown hair again.

"Elegia" is one of their most beautiful songs ever, but I prefer the version on the live album with the keyboards.

The only occasion where Sarah wears much make-up (red lipstick, dark eye shadow) is the "believe" video.

At the performance of "hide" at the concert in Amsterdam, as she sings the verse "to contaminate what's clean", she gives this nice sly smile to the audience. ;)

I am The Chariot

The Chariot often appears when hard control is or could be in evidence. At its best, hard control is not brutal, but firm and direct. It is backed up by a strong will and great confidence. The Chariot can mean self-control or control of the environment. This card also represents victory. There are many types of wins; the Chariot's is of the win-lose type. Your success comes from beating the competition to become number one. Such moments are glorious in the right circumstances.

k's choice dvd [23 Sep 2004|06:20pm]

[ music | k's choice - paradise in me ]

The K’s Choice DVD 10 which I bought some time ago is so great! Finally I’ve watched everything on the about 5 hour long double dvd and I have to say it is worth every cent!

The first dvd features the complete history of the band which is split up in sections; one about each album, from The Great Subconscious Club to Almost happy. You can see a tour video diary with clips of various performances, backstage scenes and the band at work in the studio. And everything is accompanied by comments of all band members about the different, albums, songs, life on the road, etc. It is so great to see all the “old” stuff from the early Nineties - though it is less great to realize what I have missed... :-/
There is also one performance of paradise in me from a concert in the US in 1996 and somehow I don't understand why this song did not become a single, because I think the melody is quite catchy. At least it was my first favourite song of K's Choice.

On the second DVD there is a complete concert from 2002 at the Paradiso in Amsterdam, which also includes comments on the songs by Sarah, Gert, Jan and Eric. And there are ALL 15 music videos!! I almost can’t say which is my favourite, because there are a lot of great ones, but I especially like Everything for free and Not an addict (the bus version). And I noticed that the Believe video is one of the rare occasions where Sarah is wearing lipstick... ;) And the early videos like Me happy and Breakfast are funny. :)

Another great feature of the second dvd is the part where Sarah is talking about her side projects and about the songs they made for film soundtracks, like Virgin state of mind for an US tv series and Someone to say hi to for a Belgian movie. And the clips of Sarah’s performances of the very first two solo singles from the beginning of the 90s are fun to watch... :) ;)

Strongly recommended dvd! :) :)

I am in working mode. Got a brochure of eighteen pages to translate, but at least I get paid for it. But actually I really like to translate. Otherwise I wouldn't be studying a language I guess.

And this semester, my university is offering some interesting gender studies classes, but I have to do so much other stuff... :-/

And I am rearranging my room, the blue - blue, blues, sad and dreary? - finally has to go, red and orange are gonna move in. I am looking forward to the moment when everything's finished.

Do you also sometimes wish to be able to see everything in brighter colours?

...and I am thinking about the meaning of Elegia.

Oh God, I haven't read your book
I'm sure it was divine
Especially the part where you turned water into wine

Oh God, I want you to clear my mind
It's covered up with dirt
And I want to taste your skin
One time before I taste the earth

Oh God, I apologize
I didn't knock when I arrived
Oh God, I apologize
I didn't say goodbye last night
Oh God

Now I guess you have your way
As I taste the earth today

Now I guess you have your way
As I taste the earth today

Now I guess you have your way
As I taste the earth today

Now I guess you have your way
As I taste the earth today

Something's over. Somehow.
The version on the live cd is just awesome. I am addicted to Sarah's voice these days.

turn around [31 Aug 2004|07:38pm]

[ music | sarah bettens ~ turn around (live) ]

Last night I transcribed the lyrcis of Sarah Bettens' wonderful song turn around. For me, especially the last line carries an important message, because only in this way, you get on in life.

As long as I can keep my head from spinning back
As long as I can keep my focus on a point that lies ahead
As long as I can move along
As long as nothing too disturbing hits me...

But then I turn around
And I do that all the time
Going there feels wrong
But the past is so much fun
And all memories are sweeter ‘cause they’re gone
I always want
To turn around

There’s a here and now and people to be loved
There’s a waste to be discovered (?)
There’s a green next to the rough
And sometimes I am not afraid to live
Most of all there’s you and what you give

But then I turn around
And I do that all the time
Going there feels wrong
But the past is so much fun
And all memories are sweeter ‘cause they’re gone
I always want
To turn around

Then I do that all the time
Going there feels wrong
But the past is so much fun
And all memories are sweeter ‘cause they’re gone
I always want
To turn around

As long as I can keep my head from spinning back
As long as I can keep my focus on a point that lies ahead

[ music | k's choice *winter* ]

You're crying but as long as it's transparent and not red
There's no real reason to be sad to the people who are
Smiling, always happy, always gay
They do not know that the edges of the mouth can move the other way

You're freezing, the ice on which you nearly slipped outside
Is in your body, in your mind, getting warmer you are
Dreaming, quite useless but it feels okay to you
In a world that's dreaming too, in a world in which you
Keep on searching for a thing sublime
When all you need is inside of you
Everybody's waiting for springtime
Well winter can be cosy too

Cherish the moment, cherish the key
That leads to sane insanity
Cherish incompetence, cherish me
Don't ever cherish somebody who
Keeps on searching for a thing sublime
When all you need is inside of you
Everybody's waiting for springtime
Well winter can be cosy too

anniversary (kind of) [22 Aug 2004|08:37pm]

[ music | pj harvey - a perfect day elise ]

I almost can't believe that today exactly one year ago I went to live and study abroad for a year. I was curious and also a bit anxious that the're would be difficulties to face. But looking back it was less complicated than I had expected it to be.

And I am looking forward to the beginning of the new semester at my home university again. Although looking at my time table for autumn I realise that I'll have really much to study...but that's ok.

Rain, rain, rain, we had some rain again today! Makes me really happy, because otherwise you almost can’t stand the heat...
A new weather background to celebrate. On summer evenings the sky almost every day shows a new interesting picture.

And who knew that my sister had some hidden gems among her big CD collection? Today she gave me P J Harvey’s Is this desire?. :) Her boyfriend used to listen to it, but now it was only resting on her shelf.

Speaking of weather...The sky lit up...for me this song represents a musical thunderstorm...actually the whole album does.

a crash course... [10 Aug 2004|10:12pm]
[ mood | relieved ]
[ music | catie curtis ~ wise to the ways ]

Yesterday my computer gave me a little shock by creating a kind of total breakdown, but fortunately I managed to get it working again and everything is fine again, luckily also without any loss of data. These are the situations when you realize how much you actually rely on your computer and how much stuff you have saved on it. I think I should reduce my online time...as I haven’t said that before...*rolleyes*

But today I also – finally – received The Davinci Code, I hope this will help me with what I mentioned above... ;)

And with the book I also received another perfect CD to listen to in the evening: Catie Curtis’ A crash course in roses. Catie has a wonderful distinctive voice and her style could be described as folk-pop. My favourites so far are What’s the matter, I’ll cover you and Magnolia street.

1. gave me love
2. world don’t owe me
3. 100 miles
4. fall away
5. wise to the ways
6. what’s the matter
7. I’ll cover you
8. burn your own house down
9. roses
10. look at you now
11. stay up all night
12. magnolia street
13. start again

I was just watching The Music Room on CNN and at the end they showed some little snippets of former guests of the show, greeting the audience. Among them was Alanis, smiling into the camera and saying something like "Hi, I am Alanis Morissette and I'll let you know what's going on in my music room." That was probably from 1995... >> so cute! :)

I wish you could adore
The way you did before
Now you're living through another year
Oh the light you were
Will soon become a blur
As we're living through another year.
Oh what a waste of time it is
To indulge inside of bliss
Getting ready for another year like this

Another year to lie
Another year goes by

You're not sick, so you can’t heal
But I wonder do you feel
When you need to cry 'I'm out of here'
Oh your goal is safe
But is it all you crave
As you're living through another year

Oh, what a waste of time it is
To indulge inside of bliss
Getting ready for another year like this

Another year to lie
Another year goes by

Is it me who cannot see
The face of mediocrity
I try to smile you see
The lightness darkens me

Filter all of your emotions
Fake you’re never low
Or face the one you fear
You’re living through another year

Another year another year to lie
Another year another year goes by
Another year another year to lie
Another year another year goes by

magnolia street [28 Jul 2004|07:32pm]
[ mood | impressed ]

I knew that I loved you the first time you got into my car
Your cheeks were flushed and I felt a hush come over me in the dark
I got us lost but at the next cross you said I don't care where we are
I'm in the right car

I drove us slow down a fast food strip and you turned the radio on
I was confused, all the signs were lit and you said I love this song
I wanted to say that I loved you but I knew too soon too strong
This is the ride I'm on
This is the ride I'm on

And I recall in my sleep how you changed my life on Magnolia Street
A dream, but it's true I am not the same since I met you
And I feel like I'm going home
But not to the one I've known

I knew that I loved you when we were flying home in the dark
Your hand on the wheel while I was trying to take my jacket off
My foot on the gas your eyes fast to the road ahead of us
I never felt such trust

And I recall, in my sleep how you changed my life on Magnolia Street
A dream, but it's true I am not the same since I met you

I knew that I loved you the first time you got into my car
Your cheeks were flushed and I felt a hush come over me in the dark
You wake me up warm from sleep and you take me in your arms
This is the ride I'm on
This is the ride I want

And I recall so complete how you changed my life on Magnolia Street
A dream, but it's true I am not the same since I met you
And I feel like I'm going home
But not to the one I've known
